THE RUMOR THAT WENT VIRAL

In the viral video, the woman said she felt a “bubbling” sensation under her eyelid, then woke up with her eye swollen shut. That sounds terrifying. But what's often missing from these stories is the distinction between an allergic reaction and a blindness-causing chemical burn. Many times, the culprit is a harsh adhesive with formaldehyde or latex that the person was allergic to. The eye swells shut as a protective response.
