HOW TO KEEP LASHES ON OILY LIDS
WHY DO MY LASHES NEVER STAY ON?
If your lids get oily by lunch, your lash glue doesn't stand a chance. Oil breaks down the adhesive bond, and once that bond loosens, the lash lifts, slips, and eventually falls. The good news? You can fix it in five minutes with the right prep.
I have hooded, oily lids. My first pair of falsies slid off before I left the house. I blamed the lashes, then the glue, then my shaky hands. Turns out, the problem was my skin all along.
WHY OILY LIDS DESTROY LASH GLUE
Your eyelid produces natural oils to keep the skin moist. But that same oil is a solvent for lash adhesive. The glue needs a dry, oil-free surface to grip. When oil seeps out over the day, it slowly lifts the lash from the inner and outer corners first. That's why lashes often peel at the edges before they fall completely.
THE 5-STEP PREP ROUTINE FOR OILY LIDS
- Wash your lids with oil-free cleanser. Use a gentle foam cleanser and rinse completely. No creamy makeup removers.
- Wipe your lash line with toner. Dip a cotton swab in oil-free toner and run it along your upper lash line. This removes invisible oil.
- Wait 60 seconds. Your lids need to be completely dry. Moisture is just as bad as oil.
- Apply a thin layer of adhesive. Let it get tacky before you place the lash.
- Press from the center outward. Use your fingertip to hold the lash down for 10 seconds, especially at the corners.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR LASHES STILL SLIP
If you still see lifting, your adhesive may not be strong enough, or your lash band may be too curved. Try a waterproof adhesive with a stronger hold. You can also use a clean spoolie to add a little extra adhesive to the corners before they lift. But never use regular glue on oily lids and expect a miracle.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN LASHES FOR OILY LIDS
The lash itself matters more than you think. A thin, flexible band molds to your lid and has less surface area for oil to attack. Heavy bands pull away faster. Lightweight lashes stay put longer. Pair them with the right prep, and you get a hold that lasts through dinner, dancing, and everything after.
OILY LID MISTAKES VS FIXES
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Using creamy makeup remover | Switch to oil-free micellar water |
| Skipping toner on lash line | Wipe with oil-free toner before glue |
| Applying glue to wet lids | Wait 60 seconds until fully dry |
| Using a thick, heavy band | Choose a thin, flexible lash band |
KEEP YOUR LASHES ON WITHOUT THE OIL CHECK
Imagine getting through an entire event without pressing your lash back down. No bathroom mirror checks. No panic when someone leans in for a hug. Just lashes that stay where you put them. That's the goal, and it's possible.
CAN I USE EYESHADOW PRIMER ON OILY LIDS?
Yes, use an oil-free eyeshadow primer and let it dry before applying lashes.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPLACE LASH GLUE?
Replace it every 3 months or sooner if it becomes thick or stringy.
WILL SETTING POWDER HELP KEEP LASHES ON?
A light dusting of translucent powder on the lid can help absorb oil, but avoid getting it on the lash band.
