THE INTERVIEW LASH DILEMMA

You have an interview. You want to look polished, not performed. And you're asking yourself: should I wear lashes? The answer is yes — WITHOUT the drama, WITHOUT the discomfort, and WITHOUT the risk of one lifting mid-handshake.

I once coached a friend who wore dramatic mink lashes to a finance interview. She got the job, but only after the interviewer joked, "I remember those lashes." That's not the memory you want. Interviews are about your skills, your answers, your energy. Your lashes should support that story, not star in it.

THE DO'S AND DON'TS OF INTERVIEW LASHES

Here's the checklist I give every friend before a big interview:

• DO choose natural lengths. Stick to 8–12mm. Anything longer reads as evening wear.
• DO pick a thin, flexible band. A stiff, thick band lifts at the corners and makes you look tired by hour two.
• DO test them in natural light. Bathroom lighting lies. Check your lashes near a window before you leave.
• DO bring a backup pair. If a lash gets bent in your bag, you're not panicking at 8:45 AM.
• DON'T wear colored, glitter, or ombré lashes. They're fun, but not for a salary negotiation.
• DON'T skip trimming. Lashes that are too long for your eye shape will look like spiders.
• DON'T wear old, stretched-out lashes. If the band is curved away from your natural shape, it will lift when you speak.

YOUR 5-STEP INTERVIEW LASH ROUTINE

Follow this routine so your lashes stay put from lobby to handshake:

1. Prep: Curl your natural lashes and brush them through. This gives the false lash a surface to blend into.
2. Measure: Hold the lash against your eye. Trim from the outer edge — never the inner corner — until it fits.
3. Apply: Add a thin strip of adhesive and wait 30 seconds until it's tacky. This is the difference between lashes that slide and lashes that stay.
4. Place: Start by pressing the center of the band against your lash line, then press the inner and outer corners. This prevents the corners from popping up.
5. Confirm: Look down into a hand mirror, then check yourself in natural light. Blink a few times. If you feel the lash, it's too close to your waterline or not pressed down enough.

Only if they're dramatic. A natural lash with a thin band disappears into your lash line. People notice your eyes, not your lashes.

Should I wear lash extensions to an interview?

If you already have classic extensions, keep them. But don't get a fresh full set the day before. Your eyes may be irritated, and the look can be too strong. A natural strip lash gives you more control.

What if my lashes are too long for my face?

Trim in small increments from the outer edge. The outer corner is where lashes naturally taper, so removing 2-3mm there keeps the proportion.

Can I wear mascara with lashes?

Yes, if your false lashes are subtle. One light coat on your natural lashes before applying helps them blend. Skip mascara on the false lashes themselves — it clumps the pattern.
