How to Reuse Lashes Properly: Extend Their Life

Throwing away a $20 pair of lashes after one wear honestly hurts. I used to do it all the time because I didn't know how to clean them without destroying them. After years of testing, I've learned the right way to reuse lashes carefully, safely, and multiple times.

WHY YOUR LASHES ARE DYING EARLY

Most of us ruin our lashes without realizing it. Here are the three biggest killers:

Peeling lashes off dry. Tugging at a dry band is the fastest way to warp its shape and break the fibers.
Using oil-based remover. Oil breaks down the adhesive that holds the lash band together, not just the glue holding it to your eye.
Storing them loose. A lash tossed into a makeup bag gets crushed, bent, and destroyed in days.

The fix isn't complicated — it's just a routine.

THE 6-STEP LASH RESCUE ROUTINE

Soak, don't pull. Press an oil-free makeup remover-soaked cotton pad onto your lash line. Wait 20-30 seconds until the adhesive loosens. The lash will practically fall off.
Peel the glue off the band. Use tweezers. Gently pull the glue strip from the band, not the fibers.
Clean the band. Dip a cotton swab in micellar water and run it along the band to remove residue.
Brush the fibers. Use a spoolie to comb through the lashes, removing dust and separating any stuck pairs.
Air dry completely. Lay them on a clean towel, band-side up. Leave them for 10-20 minutes.
Store in the original tray. Always. The tray preserves the curl and protects the shape.

WHEN YOU SHOULDN'T REUSE LASHES

Reuse isn't always the right call. If the band is bent and won't lay flush, if the fibers are shedding every time you touch them, or if you recently had an eye infection, toss them. Your eye health is worth more than a pair of lashes.

How many times can you reuse false lashes?

False lashes, if cared for properly, can last 10 or more wears. Some of my sturdiest pairs have made it past 15. Thin or cheap styles generally give you 2-3 wears.

What is the best way to remove adhesive from lashes?

Let the remover dissolve the glue first, then gently peel it away with tweezers. Never pull the glue off with your fingers.

Can I use oil-based remover on lashes?

No. Oil damages the lash band and shortens how many times you can wear them again. Stick to oil-free micellar water.

WHAT MAKES A LASH WORTHY OF REUSING

Not every lash can survive 10 wears. Look for a reinforced but flexible band, fibers that are tightly woven, and a quality curl that holds its shape even after a few cleanings. Cheap lashes are almost always single-use, which is the opposite of saving money.
