HOW TO APPLY FLARED LASHES TO LIFT THE EYE
If you've ever stared at your lashes and wished they'd justโฆ do more, you're not alone. I've been there โ the 'old me' used to pile on three coats of mascara just to get a hint of lift. But the real fix isn't more mascara. It's learning how to place flared lashes so your eye shape naturally turns upward. Here's exactly how to do it.
THE EYE-LIFT ILLUSION
A flared lash is designed with short hairs at the inner corner and longer hairs that fan out at the outer corner. When you place that longest peak slightly beyond your natural lash line, it pulls the eye upward. This is the same visual trick used by lash artists โ the outer corner is the anchor for an elevated look.
- Outer-corner focus: The gradient of lengths directs the eye outward and up.
- Negative space: Keeping the inner half lighter creates an open, awake effect.
- Angle control: Tilt the band a few degrees upward at the outer edge and the whole eye follows.
PLACING FLARED LASHES IN 4 STEPS
- Measure and trim: Hold the lash against your eyelid. The flared peak should sit just past your outer corner. Trim from the outer end only.
- Apply adhesive to the band: Wait 20-30 seconds until it gets tacky. Tacky is the magic window โ it grabs without sliding.
- Clamp the center first: Place the center of the lash on your natural lash line, then press the inner corner down, then the outer corner. Let the outer peak angle slightly upward.
- Press and hold for 10 seconds: Use your finger or the back of tweezers to fuse the band to your lash line. The lift will look exaggerated for a minute, then settle into a natural cat-eye.
WHAT MAKES A FLARED LASH ACTUALLY LIFT?
Not every flared lash delivers a true lift. You need a band that's flexible enough to follow your eye shape, hairs that are fluffy but tapered, and a length curve that bends upward at the outer edge. If the lash is too heavy at the corner, it will drag the eye down instead of lifting it.
I learned this the hard way โ after years of lashes that looked pretty in the box but drooped on my eyes, I got specific about testing for these three things:
- Flexible, thin band
- Lightweight fibers with a visible length gradient
- A slight curl that holds its shape through wear
When I tested the flared lashes from PHANSTA LASHES, they hit every point on that list. The band practically disappears into your lash line, and the length gradient is exactly how I'd draw a lifted eye.
Do flared lashes really lift your eye?
Yes. The visual weight of the outer corner creates an upward illusion. The longer the flared peak sits past your natural outer corner, the more lift you get.
How long should flared lashes be?
For a natural lift, choose a lash with a peak around 12-14mm. For a dramatic cat-eye, up to 16mm.
Can you sleep in flared lashes?
No. Always remove them before sleep to keep your natural lashes healthy.
