MISTAKE #1: THE SPIDER LEGS

Lashes that are clumped together in thick, stiff spikes — the kind that look like you dipped your eyes in tar and pulled them apart. On camera and in person, they read as unpolished and a little aggressive.

Fix: Choose wispy lashes with spaced-out strands. If you're using mascara, comb through immediately after applying.

MISTAKE #2: THE OBVIOUS LASH BAND

That black, shiny strip sitting visibly on your lash line like a storage shelf. It's the first thing I notice in interviews and the hardest to ignore.

Fix: Use a thin, invisible-style band. Press the lash down at the root with tweezers, not your fingers.

MISTAKE #3: THE CURL THAT IGNORES YOUR EYE SHAPE

D-curl lashes on deep-set eyes can look like they're trying to escape your face. J-curl lashes on protruding eyes can look flat and sad.

Fix: Match curl to your eye type. C-curl is the safest single option for most interviews — it's professional and universally flattering.

MISTAKE #4: THE 15MM DRAG

Long lashes that hit your brow bone every time you blink. You'll look like a flipbook in motion. It's distracting, and honestly, a little uncomfortable to watch.

Fix: Keep interview lashes at 13mm or below. The goal is "well-rested", not "wings would be jealous".

MISTAKE #5: OVER-THE-TOP VOLUME

Dense, full-volume lashes that swallow your eyes. They can make you look more "stage" than "strategy". In a professional setting, this is the number one reason lashes get remembered negatively.

Fix: Choose wispy, open-strand lashes. You want your eyes to be part of the conversation, not the whole topic.

Choose 10-12mm lashes. The length that says "polished" without shouting.
Pick a C-curl. Universally flattering, professional, wakes up the eye.
Look for wispy density. Open strands = approachable + competent.
Thin band only. The band should melt into your lash line, not sit on top of it.
