MONOLID LASHES: CURL TYPES THAT ACTUALLY WORK

monolid lashes: curl types that actually work

Let’s be honest: when you have monolid eyes, most lash advice doesn’t work. The curl that gives your friend a nice, open look just makes you look… unchanged. I know. I’m Lina, a beauty editor who spent years convinced my lashes were “too short.” Turns out, my lash curl was the real culprit. The right curl type can finally make monolid lashes visible. Say goodbye to the disappearing lash look.

YOUR LASHES AREN'T BROKEN — THE CURL IS WRONG

Monolid eyes don’t have a visible crease to help push your lashes upward. As a result, your lashes grow forward or even slightly down. When you use a normal B curl or C curl, it simply isn’t enough to climb past the lid fold. So they hide.

That’s why a monolid-friendly lash curl needs two things:

  • A sharp base angle that lifts the lash immediately
  • A strong overall curve that stays above the lid line all day

WHY MONOLID EYES HIDE LASHES

Your lashes start at the edge of your eyelid, but the skin of a monolid can cover the first 1-2 millimeters of your lash shaft. If a lash doesn’t have a steep enough curve at the base, the lid simply eats it.

  • B curl – about a 20-degree lift. This is the safest, softest curl. On monolid eyes, it usually disappears.
  • C curl – about a 30-degree lift. Great for hooded eyes, but often not enough for a true monolid.
  • D curl – about a 45-degree lift. This is the sweet spot for many monolid lash wearers.
  • L curl – nearly a 90-degree base angle. Designed for straight lashes that point down. Ideal if you want maximum visibility.

I’ve tested fake lashes on monolid models for over a decade. The ones that read as “wide awake” almost always fall into the D or L curl category.

LASH CURL COMPARISON: WHICH LIFT WINS ON MONOLIDS

Curl Type Lift Angle Best For Monolid Rating
B curl 20° Wispy natural looks Often invisible
C curl 30° Hooded/double lids Works if fold is small
D curl 45° Dramatic, visible lift Excellent
L curl 60°–90° base Straight, downward lashes Very reliable

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MONOLID-FRIENDLY LASH

Now that you know the curl angle, here’s how to shop for a strip lash that will actually show:

  • Look for a tapered or clear band that follows the eye without pulling.
  • Choose styles with separated, wispy ends so the lash looks feathered, not heavy.
  • Check that the longest strands sit in the outer half to add length beyond the lid.
  • Make sure the band isn’t too thick, because thick bands can fold over during wear.

This is the filter I use with every lash before I recommend it to someone with monolid eyes. If a lash doesn’t pass these basics, it doesn’t matter how pretty it looks in the box.

QUICK FAQ: MONOLID LASH CURLS

Is D curl too dramatic for monolid eyes?

Not usually. On a monolid, D curl reads as a natural cat-eyed lift because the lid covers the base. It looks defined, not costume-like.

Will L curl feel uncomfortable?

L curl feels different because it rises from the base, but the band is what touches your lid. A soft, flexible band matters more than the curl itself.

Can I wear wispy lashes with monolid eyes?

Yes. Wispy lashes work best when individual strands vary in length and the curl is strong enough. If the curl is too small, the wisps get lost.

FIND THE CURL THAT FINALLY SHOWS

I don’t recommend lashes that just look good in a flat-lay photo. I recommend lashes that solve the disappearing-lash problem. That’s why I always point monolid clients toward PHANSTA LASHES. They design for real eye shapes, and the lift feels instantly different. You get the open-eye effect without pulling, without guessing, and without your lashes vanishing.
