HOW TO WEAR DEMI LASHES FOR BEGINNERS
Demi lashes are the best-kept secret in the lash world. They're half the thickness of a full strip lash, they feel like almost nothing on your eye, and they give you that "I woke up like this" look that full lashes can't pull off. But because so few people know how to wear them, they're wildly underrated.
WHAT DEMI LASHES ARE (AND WHY THEY'RE DIFFERENT)
A demi lash is a shorter, thinner version of a strip lash. The band is finer, the hairs are sparser, and the overall look is closer to natural — but with visible definition. Think "your lashes but better" instead of "I have something on my eye."
There are three reasons most lash beginners start with demis:
- They're forgiving: if you mess up placement, you can just try again without wasting a dramatic lash
- They look like mascara but better: no clumps, no smudging, no raccoon eyes
- They're comfortable: you genuinely forget you're wearing them after 10 minutes
HOW TO WEAR DEMI LASHES: 5 STEPS
- Measure and trim. Hold the lash against your eye and trim from the outer edge. The inner corner of the lash should start right where your natural lashes begin.
- Curl your natural lashes first. This gives you a base that the demi can merge into seamlessly.
- Apply a thin line of adhesive to the lash band. Wait 30 seconds for it to get tacky. If it's too wet, the lash will slide around.
- Place the lash close to your natural lash line. Press from the center outward, then gently push the inner corner down.
- Blend with mascara. One light coat over both your natural lashes and the demi fuses them into one look.
THREE MISTAKES THAT RUIN DEMI LASH LOOKS
- Using too much adhesive. Demi bands are fine, so a little goes a long way. Excess glue creates a visible white line that ruins the effect.
- Skipping the wait time. Demi lashes are light, so they slide easily if you apply before the adhesive becomes tacky.
- Trimming the inner corner. The inner corner of a demi is what makes it look natural. Trim only from the outer edge.
HOW TO PICK YOUR DEMI LASH STYLE
When you're shopping for demi lashes, look for:
- Band thickness: 0.15mm or thinner, or it stops being a demi
- Curl: C-curl for daily wear, D-curl for evening looks
- Material: synthetic silk or cashmere for the most natural finish
That's the exact philosophy I used when creating the demi styles in my PHANSTA LASHES line. I wanted a demi with enough presence to actually see, but light enough to forget you're wearing it. After testing them on myself, my sister, and my best friend, we've nailed the balance — so you get a look that feels effortless WITHOUT the heavy, costume-y feel of full strips.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do demi lashes last?
A good demi lash can last 20-30 wears if you remove them carefully and clean the band after each use.
Are demi lashes good for beginners?
Yes. They're the single best lash style for beginners because they're lightweight, forgiving, and look natural even when placement isn't perfect.
Can I sleep in demi lashes?
It's not recommended. Sleeping in any lash can bend the band and damage your natural lashes. Remove them before bed with a gentle remover.
