• Avoid: Thick, shiny, plastic bands. They reflect sunlight, are rigid, and create a gap where sand gets trapped.
• Seek: Micro-flex or fiber bands. These are flat, matte, and extremely thin. They bond directly to the skin and lashes without a visible ridge.
• The Test: Gently bend the band before applying. If it springs back immediately with strong tension, it is too rigid for beach wear.

STRATEGY 2: HAIR TEXTURE IS YOUR SURVIVAL MECHANISM

The texture of the lash fiber determines how it handles water, salt, and sunscreen.

• Silk or Synthetic Silk: Best for beach. They have a matte finish that repels visible water droplets and dries quickly.
• Mink or Faux Mink: Fluffy, but trap water. They matte down quickly and look wet and heavy.
• PBT (Polybutylene terephthalate): This is the workhorse of the industry for a reason. It holds a curl perfectly, even when wet, and dries back to its exact shape.

STRATEGY 3: THE LENGTH ISN'T THE HERO

There is a common misconception that longer lashes are more dramatic for photos. On the beach, a 16mm lash is a liability. It catches the wind like a sail and puts torque on the adhesive. I recommend a cap of 12-13mm for the longest point. A beautiful multi-length lash that varies between 8mm and 12mm provides depth without the wind resistance of a solid wall of hair.
