You've had a long night. You reach up to pull off your false lashes, and something goes wrong. The lash lifts, but your natural lashes stay stuck together. You see tiny glue flakes on your lash line. THE PANIC IS REAL

We've all been there: In a rush, you grabbed the lash by the inner corner and pulled a couple of natural lashes with it. Or you found a pebble of dried glue on your lash line and tried to scratch it off. The result is a red, sensitive eye and a set of lashes that look thinner than before. The biggest mistake people make is pulling first instead of softening first.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED BEFORE YOU START

• Gentle oil-based makeup remover (coconut oil, micellar water with oil, or dedicated eye makeup remover)
• Cotton pads or soft microfiber cloth
• Q-tips or small makeup brushes
• A clean, dry towel
• Plenty of patience

Do not use water to remove lash glue. Most lash adhesives require oil to break down. Water only makes the glue harder and gummier.

STEP-BY-STEP: SAFE LASH GLUE REMOVAL

1. Soak a cotton pad in your oil-based remover. Make sure it's fully saturated but not dripping.
2. Press the pad over your closed eye, letting the remover soak into the lash band and glue area. Hold for at least 30 seconds. You want the oil to dissolve the bond.
3. Gently slide the cotton pad from the inner corner to the outer corner. The lash should lift away with minimal pulling. If it doesn't, soak for another 15 seconds and wait.
4. After the false lash is off, take a clean cotton pad with fresh remover and wipe along your natural lash line to remove remaining glue residue. Use a Q-tip for precise spots.
5. Rinse your eye with lukewarm water and pat dry. Follow up with an eye-safe moisturizer or lash serum to keep the lash line hydrated.

THE 4 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO

• Never pull from the inner corner. That's where your natural lashes are strongest, but pulling from there can still cause breakage.
• Never use tweezers or metal tools to pry glue off. Your lash line is delicate. You'll scratch your eyelid and risk infection.
• Never use baby oil directly into your eye. It stings and can cause blurry vision.
• Never scrub your eye the next morning. If you slept in your lashes (yes, it happens), let the remover soak longer in the morning instead of rubbing.

AFTER-CARE FOR YOUR NATURAL LASHES

Your natural lashes deserve a little extra care after a rough removal. Use a lash serum containing biotin and peptides for at least a week. Give your lashes a break from falsies for two or three days. Brush them with a clean spoolie to separate any stubborn glue spots. If your lashes feel brittle, apply a thin layer of castor oil before bed.

HOW TO AVOID THIS STRUGGLE NEXT TIME

You might be tempted to skip lash glue completely, but many glue-free options have their own drawbacks. The best way to avoid painful removal is to choose a lash adhesive that peels off easily. Look for an adhesive that's latex-free and designed for sensitive eyes. It should release with a small amount of oil, not require a wipe battle. And the lash band matters too: a flexible, soft band conforms to your eye better and requires a smaller amount of adhesive, so there's less glue to remove later.
