How to Make Custom Lash Maps for Any Eye Shape

Your eye shape is not a problem to fix. It's a map to follow.

I've been doing lash mapping for clients for six years, and the most common mistake is treating every eye like the same oval. The second is using a "one-size-fits-all" lash map from a Pinterest pin. Both lead to lashes that look off — even when they're technically well applied.

WHY A LASH MAP MATTERS MORE THAN THE LASH ITSELF

The same pair of lashes can look amazing on your friend and wrong on you — not because of the lash, but because of where it's placed. A lash map tells you exactly which lengths go where. It's the difference between "lashes" and "lashes that flatter you."

THE 4 EYE SHAPES AND THEIR BEST LASH MAPS

• Almond eyes: Focus length at the center, taper both ends with short spiky lashes. Adds a cat-eye lift without narrowing.
• Round eyes: Use longer lengths at the outer third with a soft flare in the middle to elongate the eye.
• Hooded eyes: Keep the inner corner sparse and use a medium length with a strong curl at the outer edge to open up the lid.
• Monolids: Repeat a uniform wispy layer but with a dramatic lift at the outer 1/4 to shape the eye.

HOW TO DRAW YOUR CUSTOM LASH MAP IN 60 SECONDS

1. Look straight into a mirror and trace your lash line with a white or nude liner.
2. Mark three points: inner corner, center of the iris, outer corner.
3. Decide your desired effect: natural, cat-eye, or doll-eye.
4. For natural, match the length to your own lashes. For cat-eye, add 2–3mm at the outer point. For doll-eye, add at the center.
5. Connect the points with a smooth curve, and use that as your placement guide.

What if I have asymmetrical eyes?

That's normal. Map each eye separately. The length you need on the left might be 1mm different from the right. Your lash map should reflect that.

Can I use the same lashes for different lash maps?

Yes, if the lashes are free from a heavy band. You can cut them into sections and apply them point by point. That's what lash mapping really means.

Is lash mapping only for professionals?

No. Once you learn the three-point technique, you can map your own lashes at home in 60 seconds. It just takes practice and a steady hand.
