How to Fix a Peeling Lash Corner During the Day
It was 2:45 PM. I was about to present to a client, and I caught my reflection in the elevator mirrors. The outer corner of my left lash was sticking straight up like a tiny flag. There was no time to remove everything and reapply. I needed a fix in the next 60 seconds.
NOT SURE ABOUT YOUR EYE SHAPE?
Take our 60-second quiz and we'll match you with the perfect lash style for your unique eye shape — no glue, no commitment.
TAKE THE QUIZ →If that sounds familiar, you probably already know the drill: press it down, it stays for a second, then pops back up. So let's talk about why this happens and what you can actually do about it right now.
WHY YOUR LASH CORNER PEELS FIRST
Your eye naturally opens and closes along both corners, but the outer corner gets more friction — from smiling, sunlight squints, sleeping on your side, and any time you rest your face in your palm. Plus, the outer corner has fewer natural lashes to grip onto, so the band has less support. In short, the outer corner is the weak spot by design.
THREE DESK-FRIENDLY FIXES THAT ACTUALLY WORK
- The clean press. Wash and dry your hands, then press the corner down for 15 full seconds. Don't rub. Use your index finger to hold the band against your natural lash line. Your body heat helps mold the band back into place.
- The spoolie tuck. Take a clean spoolie (the brush from an old mascara tube is perfect). Brush the lash corner from underneath, then gently push the band down with your fingertip. This realigns the lash fibers so they sit against your eye again.
- The tissue trick. If the band is slightly oily or watery, blot the lifted corner with a tissue wrapped around your finger. Dry the band, then press it down. Moisture is often the reason a lash won't stay down.
HOW TO PREVENT IT TOMORROW
- Apply a little more pressure when you put on your lashes. Press the corner firmly for 20 seconds before you move to the middle.
- Trim the lash to size. If the lash band extends past your natural lash line, it will lift. Measure it against your eye and trim the outer edge by 2-3 millimeters.
- Use an oil-free eye primer. It gives the band something secure to grip without making your skin greasy.
WHEN TO GIVE UP AND START FRESH
If the lash corner keeps lifting every 20 minutes, no amount of pressing will save it. You've let the band stretch too far, or the adhesive is too old. Remove the lash completely, clean the band, and reapply new adhesive. A fresh application takes 5 minutes — that's faster than 8 hours of annoying peeling.
WHAT A TROUBLE-FREE LASH DOES DIFFERENTLY
A lash that doesn't peel at the corner has a few things going on: an ultra-thin band that hugs your eye shape, a little extra curl at the outer edge to match your natural lash curve, and no rubbery texture that fights against your skin. Before you buy any new pair, ask yourself this: if this lash started peeling at 2 PM, would I be able to fix it or would I be stuck? The right lash makes that question totally irrelevant.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I use regular super glue to fix a peeling lash?
No. Never put anything not made for eyes near your eye. The chemicals can cause serious irritation and damage your natural lashes.
How long does a lash adhesive hold after I open it?
Most lash adhesives last about 2-3 months after opening. After that, they stop grabbing. Write the date on the bottle so you know exactly when to replace it.
Will fixing a lash during the day ruin my natural lashes?
No, as long as you're gentle and don't tug. Pressing, not pulling, is the key. If you have to pull, it's time to remove the lash.
