1. Measure from the outer corner: Hold the lash up to your eye without glue. The lash should start at the inner corner of your eye (where your lashes begin) and extend to where your lashes end. Mark that point on the band with a small dot using a pencil.
2. Trim from the OUTSIDE, not the inside: This is the most critical tip. Most women trim the inner edge. But the inner edge is shorter and has a natural taper. If you cut it, you lose the taper and create a blunt edge that will stab your inner corner. Instead, cut the excess from the outer edge. The outer edge is longer anyway, so you're just removing the part that would poke your temple.
3. Cut in small increments: Don't cut a whole 5mm off at once. Cut 1-2mm at a time, hold it up again, and check. It's easier to trim more than to glue a piece back on.
4. Curve the cut: When you trim the outer edge, don't cut straight across. Follow the natural curve of the lash band. This keeps the shape looking organic.

WHAT IF THE LASHES THEMSELVES ARE TOO LONG?

Sometimes the band fits fine, but the hairs are so long they hit your brow bone. This is a different problem. Here's how to handle it:

• Check the length in mm: Most drugstore lashes are 12-15mm. If you have a small eye or a low brow bone, even 12mm can be too much. Look for lashes labeled 8-10mm for a more subtle look.
• Trim the tips, not the band: If the hairs are too long, you can trim the tips of the lashes with a small pair of scissors. Trim them at an angle, not straight across. This preserves the wispy look.
• Test with your eye open: When you look straight in the mirror, your lashes should not extend past the crease of your eye when your eye is open. If they touch your brow, they're too long.

The key is to trim before applying glue. If you try to trim after the glue is on, you'll end up pulling the lash off and starting over. So measure twice, cut once.

THE "ONE PAIR FITS ALL" MYTH

Here's what the beauty industry doesn't tell you. There is no standard eye size. Some of us have hooded eyes, some have round, some have almond. The lash brands that sell "one size fits all" are lying. They use a standard 38-40mm band, which is designed for the average eye. If your eyes are smaller, you are forced to trim. • Fit within the outer edge of your natural lash line.
