How to Fix a Lash Lift at Home: Safety First

CAN YOU ACTUALLY FIX A LASH LIFT AT HOME?

Short answer: not fully. Once your lashes have been chemically reset, you can't un-reset them. The curl pattern is baked in until the lashes grow out and shed naturally. But you CAN make the situation better — or worse, depending on what you do.

The safest thing you can do is help your lashes while they grow out (6-8 weeks) and use temporary methods to disguise the problem without doing more damage.

SAFE WAYS TO FIX A LASH LIFT

Do these right away:

Use an eyelash curler on over-curled lashes. Gently press at the base, hold for 2 seconds, and release. This adds a subtle downward bend to the apex.
Apply castor oil or a lash conditioning serum nightly. This strengthens the weakened bonds. You can't reverse the curl, but you can prevent further damage.
Use a lash comb to separate any lashes that stuck together during the lift. Clumpy lashes make the problem look worse.
For a temporary fix, apply mascara with a straight wand and brush your lashes downward slightly as you go.

WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN FIXING LASH LIFTS

Do NOT:

Use a heated eyelash curler. Heat plus chemicals equals severe dryness and breakage.
Pull your lashes to 'uncurl' them. You'll snap the hair shaft.
Apply another chemical treatment (like a second lift) to fix the first one.
Use waterproof mascara. It's painful to remove and causes more pulling on fragile lashes.

Bad lash lift results usually correct themselves within 2-4 weeks as new growth pushes through. If lashes are actually damaged — breaking, falling out — give them a full growth cycle of about 8 weeks before any lash styling beyond mascara.
