You can go subtle or completely over the top — and honestly, both are right. Here are five ways to wear red, white, and blue lashes without looking like a craft store exploded.

Stars and Stripes Flare: A black lash base with scattered blue and red glitter on the outer corners.

HOW TO MAKE GLITTER LASHES STAY ALL NIGHT

There’s nothing sadder than a piece of glitter floating into your eye at a barbecue. To avoid that, you need to lock the glitter down. Here’s my pre-flight checklist:

Start with a clean, dry eyelid.
Apply your lash adhesive to the band, and wait 30 seconds for it to get tacky.
Press the lash directly onto your lash line, then hold for 10 seconds.
Run your finger gently over the lash to make sure no glitter is loose.
Set with a clear lash sealant if you have one.

Also, avoid touching your lashes all night. I know it’s hard. But glitter is clingy only when you don’t mess with it.

SAFETY TIPS FOR GLITTER AROUND YOUR EYES

Not all glitter is eye-safe. Aim for cosmetic-grade glitter, preferably with a smooth surface. Here’s what I do:

Test on the inside of your wrist before wearing.
Use only glitter that’s labeled for eyes.
Never rub your eyes if a piece falls in — instead, flush with water.
Remove your lashes gently at the end of the night.
