The outer corner of your lash looks great in the mirror when you apply it — and somewhere between putting on your coat and getting to the door, it folds over. It looks like your eye is melting.

I say this with full empathy because I have hooded eyes, and I cried about a drooping lash corner in a restaurant bathroom more than once. The problem is not the lash. It's the mechanics of the hooded eye shape.

When you have hooded eyes, the skin above your eye crinkles and folds down at the outer corner. That fold physically pushes and pins the lash band downward. Your natural lashes also point down slightly in hooded eyes, which gives the false lash less support. Two forces — skin pressure and downward lash angle — working against your lash at the same time.

THE 3-STEP FIX FOR DROOPY LASH CORNERS ON HOODED EYES

This method takes 7 minutes extra. It's what I recommend to every hooded-eye reader who's on the verge of giving up on lashes.

PREP THE LASH LINE (2 MINUTES). Curl your natural lashes FIRST. Not after. Then apply one light coat of waterproof mascara to your natural lashes. Wait 60 seconds. This creates a scaffold for the false lash to rest on — instead of sliding down your lash line, it sits on a textured, curled base.
ANGLE YOUR STRIP LOWER, NOT HIGHER. Counterintuitive? Here's the trick most makeup artists get wrong. With hooded eyes, most people angle the lash upward, thinking it will lift the eye. But the skin fold at your outer corner pushes down on anything that's angled upward. So you end up with a droop. Instead, apply the lash strip slightly below your natural lash line on the outer corner only. Sounds weird, but it makes the eye look lifted because the lash visually replaces the hooded fold.
FINISH WITH A HEAT PRESS (5 SECONDS). Use a heating tool set to LOW and gently press the outer lash corner upward for 5 seconds. This melts the band slightly and sets it into a curled, lifted position. If you don't have a heating tool, a warm (not hot) bobby pin pressed along the band for 10 seconds works the same way.

I've used this three-step method on at least 15 different hooded-eye clients, including my own face, and the difference is night and day. The lash stays put — through a full workday, a few laughs, some tears, and a humid evening.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A LASH THAT WON'T DROOP

Your lash style plays a huge role. Before you buy next, check for these:

MEDIUM-FLEX BAND: Too soft and the band folds like paper under the skin crease. Too rigid and it fights your eye shape. A medium-flex band that holds its curl when bent is ideal.
LIGHT OUTER WEIGHT: If the lash is heaviest at the outer edge, it will drag down. Look for lashes where the volume is concentrated in the middle or taper nicely toward both ends.
SHORTENED OUTER CORNER: Many hooded-eye experts recommend trimming the last millimeter off the outer corner of the lash. Look for lashes that naturally taper or are designed for "cat eye" placements.
SUBTLE CURL: A lash that's too aggressively curved at the base will pop off or droop. Look for a gentle, natural curl that matches your own lash angle.

Finding a lash that actually fits these criteria took me over a year of testing. Most lashes are designed for non-hooded eyes — they're heavier, curvier, and longer at the outer corner, which is exactly the wrong profile for hooded eye shapes.
