END OF SUMMER LASH REVIVAL ROUTINE
August leaves a mark on your lashes. All summer, they survived chlorine, salt water, sweat, SPF, waterproof mascara, and the kind of heat that makes your whole face a humidity situation. Last year, I looked in the mirror after Labor Day and my lashes were brittle, sparse, and half of them were pointing in different directions. I am a beauty editor who should know better. And yet, I had treated my lashes like they were indestructible. That’s when I built a 3-step end of summer lash revival routine. It takes 2 minutes at night and 1 minute in the morning. After 14 days, my lashes looked like themselves again.
THE 3-STEP END OF SUMMER LASH REVIVAL
Step 1: Cleanse like a gentle detective.
Use an oil-based cleanser first, and let it sit on your closed eye for 30 seconds. This dissolves the invisible film of sunscreen, salt, and waterproof mascara. Then follow with a water-based cleanser to remove the oily residue. Rinse with cool water. Do this every night for 14 days. You’ll notice less fallout as soon as day 3.
Step 2: Brush and separate.
After cleansing, use a clean spoolie and brush your lashes upward. Hold the spoolie underneath your lashes and wiggle it up. Do this for 60 seconds on each eye. It removes tangles and reminds your lashes which direction they’re supposed to grow. This step made the biggest visual difference for me because my lashes immediately looked longer.
Step 3: Condition overnight.
Before bed, apply a tiny bit of lash conditioner or a single drop of castor oil to your lash line. You don’t need much—one drop per eye is enough. Let it sit overnight. Do this for 21 nights. This is the repair step that helps with strength and flexibility.
WHAT NOT TO DO AFTER SUMMER
- Don’t pull off leftover mascara with your nails. Use a cotton pad and let it sit.
- Don’t rub your eyes when they itch. Pat, don’t scrub.
- Don’t skip the eyelid. Your lash roots need a clean base to grow from.
- Don’t wear waterproof mascara every day for the next month. Give your lashes a break at least 2 days a week.
HOW TO KNOW YOUR LASHES ARE READY FOR GLAM AGAIN
Use a magnifying mirror and look at your lash line. If you see a smooth line, no flakes, and lashes that curl upward after brushing, they’re ready. If they still look uneven or brittle, keep the routine for another week. One extra week is worth it—you don’t want beautiful falsies sitting on weak lashes.
SUMMER LASH FAQ
How long does it take to revive lashes after summer?
Most people see a visible difference after 14 days of consistent cleansing and conditioning. Full lash growth cycles take longer, but you’ll see less fallout and more direction in your lashes first.
Can I wear mascara while doing this routine?
You can, but avoid waterproof formulas for the first week. Waterproof mascara is the hardest on your lashes and can undo the progress of your nighttime conditioning.
What ingredient should I avoid in lash care?
Avoid anything with harsh preservatives or fragrance near your eyes. You want simple ingredients like castor oil, panthenol, or hyaluronic acid.
