The direction of the curl also matters: lashes curled sharply upward face the flash straight on, which creates a tiny hotspot. A flatter curl will reflect away from the camera but might not give you the lift you want.
HOW TO PREVENT LASH GLARE BEFORE THE SHUTTER
- Choose matte-finish lashes. They reflect 80% less visible glare than glossy styles.
- Dust a tiny bit of translucent powder over your false lashes after applying mascara. This breaks up the shine without adding weight.
- Angle your face slightly to the left or right in photos. A 15-degree turn changes the reflection angle.
- Skip products with silicone and 'wet look' claims. They are the number one glare magnets.
- Carry a spoolie and brush through lashes just before the group photo. This removes any oily film from your skin.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A FLASH-FRIENDLY LASH
When you buy false lashes for event photos, look for the finish first. The label might say 'matte,' 'suede,' or 'tissue-soft.' If it says 'silky,' 'glossy,' or 'shiny,' expect glare. The band type also matters: a cotton band absorbs flash better than a plastic one.
