The short answer is no: an eyelash curler cannot curl false lashes. And if you try, you'll hear a tiny crunch — and that crunch is the sound of your lash's band and fibers giving up.

I know that crunch well. As a beauty editor, I've tested more than 40 pairs of false lashes, and the very first pair I ever owned snapped clean in half because I clamped it with my favorite metal curler. I once clamped my lashes so hard that they pointed in opposite directions. I had to throw them away ten minutes before an event. That's when I finally got it: if a lash doesn't have the curl I want when it comes out of the box, no curler can give it to me.

WHAT ACTUALLY GIVES FALSE LASHES CURL

If you want gorgeous, lifted lashes without the crunch, the answer isn't a tool. It's choosing a lash that already has the curl built in. Here's what to look for:

• Pre-curled lash trays. The lashes curve upward before you ever touch them.
• A curved band, not a flat one. The band should arch to match your eye shape. Flat bands always look droopy.
• Lightweight fibers. Heavy lashes pull your eye down no matter how curled they are.

And a heated curler won't save you — the heat can melt synthetic fibers and ruin the lash even faster.
