LASH UNBOXING TRENDS ON TIKTOK: VIRAL STYLES
Has your “For You” page been flooded with lash unboxing videos? You're not alone. The #LashTok unboxing rabbit hole has millions of views — and it's easy to get lost in. Watching a set of fluffy lashes get pulled out of a box, fluttered between two fingers, held up against natural light… it's genuinely satisfying.
But as a beauty editor who has unboxed way too many lash boxes to count (some great, some terrible), I want to break down what these viral unboxings get right — and everything they don't tell you.
WHAT IS THE LASH UNBOXING TREND ON TIKTOK?
The trend is exactly what it sounds like: creators filming themselves unboxing lash sets, revealing each pair, and holding them up for the camera. Some videos also feature a “wear test” — applying the lashes and showing the result in different lighting.
Why did it blow up? Three reasons:
- Visual ASMR. The crackle of the lash box, the gentle fanning of the fibers, the satisfaction of a neat setup.
- Instant transformation. Even a basic unboxing video shows the promise of “this will make your eyes look amazing.”
- Community reviews. You trust a reviewer's face, their skin, their natural lashes. You want to know: “If they look good on her, will they look good on me?”
WHY VIRAL UNBOXINGS DON'T TELL YOU EVERYTHING
I've seen gorgeous unboxings of lashes that looked absolutely stunning in the video — but then in real life, the band was too stiff, the curl fell flat by hour three, and they made my eyes feel heavy. The unboxing hype didn't match the wear.
Here's what an unboxing video usually doesn't show:
- How they feel after 8 hours. A lash might look great for 30 seconds on camera. Strain or discomfort? You'll only feel that at hour 6 of a wedding or party.
- The band quality. Thick, stiff bands dig into the lash line and are hard to bend. Only visible when you look closely.
- The curl retention. Some lashes lose their curl quickly — especially in humidity.
- How they work on your specific eye shape. The creator's eyes are not your eyes.
HOW TO CHOOSE A LASH STYLE FROM THE TRENDS
Just because a lash is viral doesn't mean it's for you. Here's my system for evaluating lash trends — and choosing the right pair for your features:
- Check the base. Look for a flexible, thin band. If they show a close-up, look at whether the band is soft.
- Notice the curl. Watch the unboxing from the side. A B curl looks flatter, a D curl has more obvious 3D lift.
- Match length to your eye shape. Almond and monolid eyes can handle 13 mm+. Hooded and deep-set eyes should stay in the 8–12 mm range.
- Read comments. Real users will mention the wearing experience. Search “weight,” “comfort,” and “lasted” in the comments.
Trends are great for inspiration, but the best lash for you is the one that looks natural, feels weightless, and lasts past your bedtime. Those are the lashes people actually keep buying.
LASH TREND QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
What are the most viral lash styles on TikTok right now?
Wispy lashes, doll center-length lashes, and demi natural lashes dominate right now. The common thread? Lightweight, practical styles that don't look costumey.
Are TikTok lash unboxings sponsored?
Many are — creators either get free product or get paid. Watch unboxings as inspiration, but always read independent reviews before spending your own money.
How do I know if a viral lash will work with my eye shape?
Look at the length in millimeters, not just the vibe. If your eyes are hooded or deep-set, keep the length 12 mm or under. Always check the return policy — a good brand should accept returns on unopened boxes.
