You finally found a pair of lashes you love. But when you hold it up to your eye, it stretches a full half-inch past your lash line. I know the struggle. I have small eyes, and every pair of lashes I bought needed to be trimmed.

Trimming lashes for small eyes isn't hard. You just need to measure correctly, cut from the right side, and know when to stop.

WHY MOST LASHES DON'T FIT SMALL EYES

Standard strip lashes are made for an average eye width of about 28–30mm. Small eyes are often 24–26mm. That extra length causes the lash to poke your inner or outer corner, lift away, or look droopy. In my experience, a lash that's more than 2mm too long will never sit comfortably.

HOW TO MEASURE LASHES FOR YOUR EYE

1. Hold the lash against your upper lash line, starting from the inner corner.
2. Look straight ahead and see where the lash ends. It should end right before your natural lash line ends.
3. Mark the excess with a piece of tape or your finger.
4. Use a ruler to measure the excess. Most people need to remove 5–8mm from the outer edge.

THE CORRECT WAY TO TRIM LASHES

1. Use small, sharp scissors (cuticle scissors work great).
2. Trim from the outer corner, not the inner corner. The outer corner is where most lashes are longest, and cutting there keeps the natural shape.
3. Cut in small sections, not all at once. Take off 2mm at a time, then try the lash on.
4. Never cut the lash band straight across. Cut at a slight angle to match your eye shape.
5. After trimming, bend the lash band into a curve for 10 seconds before applying.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN LASHES FOR SMALL EYES

After trimming dozens of pairs, I've learned that the best lashes for small eyes have a few things in common: a thin band that doesn't add extra width, a taper at the ends so they don't look blunt, and a length that's naturally closer to 8–10mm. If a lash has those, a tiny trim is all it needs.
