How to Fix a Gap Between Lash Band and Lash Line
You glued, you pressed, you held for 12 seconds—and still, that thin gap between the lash band and your lash line showed up. I know the feeling. I once stood in a public restroom before a presentation, pressing a strip lash down with my pinky, wondering if everyone could see the space. The gap isn't because you're uncoordinated. It's because the glue wasn't tacky yet, or the band didn't match your eye curve.

TAKE THE QUIZ →THE REAL REASON YOUR LASHES WON'T STAY PUT
Strip lashes need a "tacky" adhesive. If you apply the lash right after putting glue on, the band slides. If you wait too long, the glue stops gripping. The sweet spot is about 30 seconds—and that changes with humidity. On humid mornings, wait a little longer.
There's another reason: the band shape. Store shelves are full of straight bands. Your eye is not straight. If you don't curve the band before applying, the outer corner lifts. That's what creates the gap.
HOW TO FIX THE GAP IN 4 STEPS
- Remove and bend. Take the lash off gently. Curl the band around your finger or the back of your hand for 20–30 seconds. This softens it.
- Apply a thin coat of glue and wait. Use enough to cover the band from end to end, but not so much that it puddles. Wait 30 seconds until it feels slightly sticky.
- Look down. Place a mirror under your chin and look down into it. Press the middle of the band to your lash line first, then work to the inner and outer corners.
- Hold for 10 seconds. Press lightly, let the glue set, and blink slowly. Do not pull the outer corner until you're sure it's dry.
WHY THE GAP KEEPS HAPPENING
Your eye shape plays a big role. Almond-shaped eyes can handle a curved band, but round eyes need a shorter lash with more flexibility. If you have a monolid, the band needs to hold its shape better. If you have deep-set eyes, a thinner band helps you get closer to the lash line without curling up.
Without adjusting for your eye shape, you'll keep fixing the same spot again and again. That's not a failure. It's information.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A LASH THAT FITS YOUR EYE SHAPE
At this point, you know the fix isn't just about your hands—it's about the lash itself. When you shop, look for a flexible band with a built-in curve, a lightweight design, and lash hairs that taper at the ends. If the band is too stiff, it will pop up. If it's too thin, it might crease in the middle.
You also want a lash that doesn't need a full bottle of glue to stay put. The better the band conforms, the less adhesive you need, and the cleaner the placement feels.
STILL STUCK? LASH GAP QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Can I fix a lash gap without starting over?
Yes. Apply a tiny drop of glue to the spot that's lifting, wait for it to get tacky, then press the band down with your finger for 8–10 seconds.
Why do my lash corners always lift?
Usually the band is too straight. Curving the band first solves most corner-lift complaints.
How do I know if my lash glue is too wet or too dry?
If it's too wet, the band slides around. If it's too dry, it feels tacky only in spots. You want a slow, smooth tackiness about 30 seconds after applying.
