Here's the fix that took me from lash-failure to magician: the mirror trick.

THE MIRROR TRICK THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

Instead of looking at a mirror straight on, place your mirror underneath your face. Literally hold it down by your chin and look down into your own eyes. This lifts your eyelid skin just enough to expose your lash line, so you can actually see where the lash should go.

It's a tiny shift in angle, but it makes a huge difference for hooded eyes.

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO LASHES ON HOODED EYES

1. Trim your lash to fit. Measure from the inner to outer corner of your eye. If it touches your inner corner, trim from the outer side only.
2. Curl your natural lashes. Use a steady, three-dose pump on the lash curler — don't yank. This gives the false lash something to cling to.
3. Apply thin eyelash glue along the band and wait 20-30 seconds. The glue gets tackier, which is what you need.
4. Use the mirror trick: hold your mirror below chin height and look down. This exposes the lash line.
5. Place the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible. Press from the middle outward, then the ends.
6. When it's all on, press down lightly with your finger for five seconds to blend fake and natural lashes.

WHY CURL TYPE AND LENGTH MATTER EVEN MORE ON HOODED EYES

On hooded eyes, the root of the problem is hidden eyelid space. A curl that points straight up or doesn't have enough of an angle will collapse the second you open your eye. You need a curl with more lift, like an L curl or a B curl with a strong base.

Length also changes things. Very long lashes (13mm+) can feel too heavy for a hooded lid, unless they're placed carefully. A 10-12mm lash is usually the sweet spot. It still flatters without acting like a tiny awning.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN EASY-APPLY LASH

When you're shopping for your next pair, keep these features in mind:

• A thin, flexible band that hugs the curve of your hooded eye instead of springing out.
• A lash that has a visible "step" from short to long. This prevents the "one line" effect.
• A lightweight design that doesn't weigh down your lid during those long conversations.
• A clear or black band is fine, but the flexibility matters more.
