I'll be honest: I used to sleep in my lashes. I know. Cringe.

After one too many eye infections, I became a little obsessed with cleaning them. And now that I've figured out a routine that works, I want to share it with you.

WHY CLEANING LASHES MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK

Your lashes touch your eyes. Bacteria, oil, makeup, and dead skin cells build up on the band and between the bristles. If you keep using them without cleaning, you're basically inviting irritation, styes, and even infections.

It's not just about looking good. It's about eye health.

THE STEP-BY-STEP WAY TO SANITIZE YOUR LASHES

Remove all makeup first. Use a gentle oil-based remover on your face, not on the lashes yet.
Soak the lashes in warm water with mild soap. A few drops of baby shampoo or an antibacterial soap works. Soak for 30 seconds.
Gently swish. Don't rub or squeeze. Let the water loosen the gunk.
Use a clean spoolie to brush away debris. Focus on the band and between the lash hairs.
Rinse with cool water. Make sure no soap residue stays.
Pat dry and let them fully air dry. Never rub wet lashes with a towel.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN OR REPLACE THEM?

If you wear lashes daily, clean them after every 2-3 wears. If you only wear them occasionally, clean them before the next use.

And no matter how careful you are, lashes don't last forever. Replace them when they start to lose their curl, become misshapen, or after about 10 wears. The eye area is too delicate to risk.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A LASH THAT CAN BE REUSED
