Is it bad to sleep in false lashes? If you've ever woken up with a pair that looks like they survived a storm, you know the answer. I've done it before a flight, and I paid for it. This is what I wish someone told me about overnight lash care.

CAN YOU LEAVE LASHES ON OVERNIGHT?

Technically, you can. But you shouldn't. Yes, I said that as a lash editor, not a doctor. Sleeping in falsies puts pressure on your lash line, and your natural lashes end up paying the price.

THE RISKS OF SLEEPING IN YOUR FALSIES

• Bacteria build-up along the band can lead to styes or irritation.
• Twisting overnight bends the lash fibers and ruins their curl.
• Your natural lashes get yanked when your face hits the pillow, which can cause gaps.

OVERNIGHT LASH CARE ROUTINE (STEP-BY-STEP)

1. Remove your falsies before washing your face, not after.
2. Get a cotton pad, soak it in oil-free makeup remover, and press it on your eye for 15 seconds.
3. Let the lash slide off naturally. Never pull.
4. Use a dry spoolie to brush the lash from root to tip, removing any old adhesive or flecks of liner.
5. Place the lash back in its original tray. Close the lid tightly so the lash keeps its curve.

HOW TO RESTYLE YOUR LASHES TO EXTEND THEIR LIFE

If your falsies lose their snap, don't throw them out. As long as the band isn't cracked, you can reshape them in less than a minute. Hold the lash with tweezers and blast it with a warm (not hot) blow dryer for 10 seconds, then curl upwards with your finger. Always store them curve-up. This can stretch a $10 pair to 20 wears.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN LASHES THAT LAST

The band is the hero. A thin, tapered band will not only wear better overnight—it's also easier to clean. Look for a lash with a rounded band edge instead of a sharp one. Sharp edges dig into your waterline and turn routine removal into a nightmare. Also, softer fibers are more forgiving when they get squished by a pillow.

Should I use waterproof mascara with falsies?

Avoid waterproof mascara on false lashes—it's almost impossible to remove without damage. Stick to regular as your lash liner.

Can I shower with false lashes?

For standard falsies, it's not a good idea. The steam loosens the band, and the water pushes the lash out of shape. Exceptions are lashes specifically labeled for swimming, but those are rare.
