HOW TO KEEP FALSE LASHES ON FOR 12 HOURS
You've got a 7am to 7pm schedule. Your lashes need to last through a commute, a full day of meetings, maybe a teary-eyed Pixar movie. I get it. My worst lash disaster: at my sister's wedding, my outer corner lifted right as the speeches started. Turns out, it wasn't the glue. It was three dumb mistakes I made during prep.
7 DUMB MISTAKES THAT RUIN YOUR LASHES BY LUNCH
- Skipping the oil-free cleanser. Your natural skin oils make the glue let go within 2 hours.
- Using too much glue. A thick bead of glue dries slower and creates a gap between the band and your lid.
- Not waiting for the glue to get tacky. At minimum, 30 seconds. If it's wet, it slides.
- Setting the lash too far up from your lash line. Leave a gap, and the lash will catch in your vision and pull off after enough blinks.
- Not pressing the corners down. The inner and outer corners are where a lash always lifts first. I press each for 15 seconds.
- Adding mascara before the lash. Mascara traps moisture and coats your band, making it slippery.
- Choosing a lash with a stiff band. No glue is strong enough to keep a cardboard-like band on your lid.
THE CORRECT WAY TO APPLY LASHES FOR 12-HOUR WEAR
- Start with clean, dry lids. Use a cotton pad with a tiny bit of micellar water.
- Choose a pair of lashes with a flexible, thin band. Trim the outer corner to match your eye length.
- Apply a thin line of glue along the whole band. Let dry for 45 seconds.
- Use tweezers to place center of lash on lash line, as close to natural lashes as possible.
- Press inner corner down, then outer corner. Hold for 15 seconds each.
- Close your eyes and gently press your natural lashes and false lashes together with a spoolie.
- Add a final layer of lash adhesive at the outer edge, just at the band, for an extra anchor.
It sounds simple, but the key is patience. The glue needs time to become tacky, and your lashes need time to bond.
WHAT MAKES LASHES LAST
- Band flexibility. Press the band between your fingers. It should bend without creasing.
- Fiber curl memory. Bend the lash into a lower curl and hold for 3 seconds. If it snaps back, it's got good memory.
- Lightweight material. If your eyes feel heavy, you'll subconsciously blink more and knock the lash loose.
- Good glue. Look for a latex-free adhesive that claims "long wear" or "24-hour". That label matters.
Every time a friend tells me "these lashes never last," I ask to see the band. Usually it's thick, shiny and plastic. I throw them away.
FAQ
Can you sleep with fake lashes on?
No. Never sleep in false lashes. The pressure of a pillow loosens the band, and the friction can pull out your natural lashes. If you must take a nap, use a pair of lashes with a super-thin band and lay on your back.
Does waterproof eyelash glue really last longer?
Yes. In my experience, waterproof formulas hold 2โ3 hours longer than regular ones. But they're harder to remove, so always use a oil-based makeup remover instead of tugging.
Why do my lashes always lift at the outer corner?
Mostly because the lash strip is too long. You need to trim the outer corner with scissors so the last few fibers stop right before your eye ends. A lash that hangs past your eye line lifts constantly.
If you're tired of lashes that die by 3pm, PHANSTA LASHES is where I point my readers. The bands are so thin you'll forget they're there, and the fibers are selected for curl memory.
