Can You Shower with Lash Extensions? Yes, But...
THE SHOWER PANIC: WHAT EVERY EXTENSION WEARER FEARS
I used to plan my showers around my lash extensions. Face away from the spray. Wash my hair leaning back. Hold my breath when water got near my eyes. The first time I accidentally got them wet, I ran to the mirror expecting to find a bald lash line. Sound familiar?

EXTENSIONS + WATER: WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
Modern lash extension adhesive is water-resistant once cured. That does not mean waterproof. It means your lashes can get damp — but not soaked, steamed, or oiled.
The real killers are steam, pressure, and oil. Hot steam softens the adhesive. Direct water pressure at your lash line loosens the bond. And shampoo or body wash left on the lashes breaks down the adhesive over time.
So, can you shower with extensions? Yes, but three things have to change.
THE 3 SHOWER RULES THAT SAVE YOUR LASHES
- Cool the temperature. Warm, not hot. Steam is the first culprit in a lash losing its curl.
- Turn your back on the spray. Never face the shower stream directly. Clean your face with a damp washcloth, not splashes.
- Dry your lashes immediately. Gently brush them upward with a clean mascara wand while damp. This resets your curl before it dries weird.
And the one that saves more lash sets than anything else: wait 24 hours after your appointment before getting them wet. You can shower with extensions WITHOUT losing your curl, WITHOUT losing a lash, and WITH your lash line intact.
Can I swim with lash extensions?
Yes, but wait at least 48 hours after application. After that, wear goggles in chlorinated water and avoid salt water for the first week.
How long after getting lash extensions can I get them wet?
24 hours minimum; 48 is safer. After that, water won't hurt them as long as you follow the three shower rules.
What breaks down extension adhesive fastest?
Oily cleansers, oil-based makeup remover, and face washes with moisturizing oils. Switch to oil-free formulas if you want your extensions to last.
The biggest mistake extension wearers make is believing the lashes need perfect care to be gorgeous. They need smart care. PHANSTA LASHES exists for the days you're done stressing and still want to look in the mirror and smile.
