How to Apply Lashes to Mature Hooded Eyes Without Creasing

You can apply false lashes to mature hooded eyes without creasing — if you change your placement and trim the band. Here is the exact method I have used for six years as a beauty editor with hooded lids.

WHY LASHES CREASE ON HOODED EYES

I also have hooded eyes. My natural crease sits about two millimetres below my lash line when I look straight ahead. That tiny fold is the reason standard lash application fails.

When you open your eyes, the loose skin above your lash line presses down on any false lash band that sits on the eyelid skin. The band gets caught in the fold, and that creates the line you see. The fix is to place the band under your natural lash line so your hood has nothing to grip.

THE 3-STEP APPLICATION METHOD

You need a mirror, a pair of tweezers, and about five minutes. I recommend doing this before any eye makeup, or right after a thin layer of shadow.

Trim the outer edge. Hold the lash against your eye. Measure from your inner corner to your outer corner. Cut 3 to 5 millimetres off the outer edge only. Never trim the inner corner because that is where the band can lift.
Add adhesive and wait 30 seconds. Apply a thin, even layer of lash adhesive along the band. Wait exactly 30 seconds. The glue should feel tacky when you touch the back of your hand. If it is wet, it will slide and crease.
Place the lash under your natural lashes. Look down into a mirror. Press the band onto the underside of your own lashes, where your lashes meet your skin. Hold for 10 seconds. The band should sit at the same angle as your natural lash line, not above it.

MY BIGGEST MISTAKES (AND HOW TO SKIP THEM)

For the first year, I placed my lashes too high. I thought the lash should sit where the crease is. That caused creasing in about 20 minutes. I also skipped trimming because the outer corner of my eyes is slightly lower than my inner corner. Untrimmed lashes poked the edge of my hood and made the band flick upward.
