HOW TO LIFT MONOLID EYES WITH FALSE LASHES

how to lift monolid eyes with false lashes

If you have monolid eyes, you already know the exact moment it happens. You press a beautiful pair of lashes into place, open your eyes... and they’re gone. Swallowed by the fold. It’s like your eyelid ate them. No amount of mascara, curling, or prayers brings them back.

I spent six years convinced my eyes were “not meant for lashes.” It turned out I was just using the wrong technique. Once I understood how monolid eyes actually catch light and shadow, everything changed. Now I can get a visibly lifted, wide-awake eye in minutes — without surgery, tape, extensions, or dimly lit mirrors.

WHAT “LIFTING” ACTUALLY MEANS FOR MONOLID EYES

A lash that “lifts” a monolid eye doesn’t physically pull the eyelid up. It creates an optical illusion that makes the eye appear taller, brighter, and more almond-shaped. Three things make this happen:

  • Outer-corner length pulls the eye upward. When lash fibers get longer toward the outer edge, the eye’s visual line stretches diagonally — the classic cat-lift effect.
  • A strip placed above the lash line creates a fake crease. The gap between your natural lash line and the lash band reads as “lid space,” making the eye look dramatically taller.
  • Dense black fibers add contrast. A rich lash line makes the white of your eye look brighter and larger by comparison.

THE 3-PART LIFTING TECHNIQUE

This is the exact method I teach every monolid client. You can use it with any strip lash you own:

  1. Place the band higher than you think. Most people stick the lash right on the lash line. For monolid eyes, place it just above — about the width of a toothpick. This gap becomes your visual crease.
  2. Angle the outer corner upward 10–15 degrees. As you press the lash into place, lift the outer corner slightly toward your temple. This single motion creates an instant eye lift.
  3. Use your fingers, not tweezers. Tweezers flatten the band. Fingertips let you feel the natural curve of your eye and mold the band to your exact shape.

HOW TO CHOOSE LASHES FOR YOUR EYE SHAPE

Not all lashes are made equal — and monolid eyes are picky. Look for these three features:

  • Outer-corner emphasis. Cat-eye and flared styles (8mm to 14mm gradient) create the most visible lift.
  • A flexible, thin band. Stiff plastic bands refuse to curve over monolid lids. A soft band molds, stays, and disappears.
  • Varied fiber lengths. Lashes cut at one uniform length look heavy and fake. Wispy, tapered fibers look like your lashes — just better.

And here’s a pro tip that took me years to learn: curl matters more than length. D and C curls hold their shape against a monolid lash line. B and J curls collapse into the fold. If your lashes “don’t grab,” this is usually why.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MONOLID-FRIENDLY LASH

Before you buy any pair, run them through this five-point checklist: outer-corner length that starts around 8mm and peaks at 13–14mm, a band you can bend without snapping, D or C curl, tapered/wispy fibers, and total weight under 0.5g. If a pair of lashes checks all five boxes, it will lift your eyes. If it misses one, you’ll be back to fighting the fold.

That’s the standard we built PHANSTA LASHES around — every lash in our collection is designed with this exact monolid-friendly formula.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I wear lashes if my monolid is uneven?

Yes. Apply lashes to the smaller eye first, then match the angle and position on the larger eye. Use shorter lengths on the smaller eye if needed — this visually balances both sides.

How do I stop lashes from touching my brow bone?

Choose a pair with a max length of 12mm and a flexible band. Stiff bands sit too high and push toward the brow. The band should follow the curve of your natural lash line, not cut across your lid.

Are strip lashes better than extensions for monolid eyes?

For most women, yes. Strip lashes let you control placement and angle precisely. Extensions are applied lash-by-lash at a fixed angle and can’t create the fake-crease illusion that makes monolid eyes look lifted.
