Spring Cleaning Your Lash Collection: A Seasonal Edit
If your lash drawer looks like a contest between chaos and mystery, this spring cleaning guide will fix it. Crusty old adhesive, three nearly identical strips, a lone lash from a pair you swear you loved — I've seen it all.
NOT SURE ABOUT YOUR EYE SHAPE?
Take our 60-second quiz and we'll match you with the perfect lash style for your unique eye shape — no glue, no commitment.
TAKE THE QUIZ →Step 1: Empty Everything
Take every lash, every case, every half-used bottle of mascara. Place them on a clean towel. Get rid of empty boxes and bent tweezers first. You cannot organize a collection that lives in a crisis.
Step 2: Sort Into Three Piles
- Keep: Lashes in good shape, with a clean band and no visible damage. Disinfect them. Store them properly.
- Repair: Lashes with a slightly bent band or product buildup. Clean them with an oil-free makeup remover and lukewarm water. Gently reshape the band with your fingers.
- Toss: Cracked bands, discolored hairs, stretched-out strips, or any lash that smells. Also — and this is important — any lash that you've had for more than 15–20 wears. That's the hygiene limit.
Step 3: Give Them a Real Cleanse
Use an oil-free cleanser or gentle makeup remover. Apply it with a cotton pad and swipe from the band down to the tips. Never soak them. Then pat dry with a tissue and let them air dry on the towel before storing.
Step 4: Store Them Like You Respect Yourself
Put each lash back in its original tray. If you lost the tray, use a clean contact-lens case or a flat makeup container. Keep the container away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. A bathroom cabinet is okay if it's not directly above a shower.
Can I reuse disposable lashes if I clean them?
Yes, if they are still in good condition and you clean them gently. But no more than 15–20 uses. Your eyes are not worth the risk.
How do I get old adhesive off my lashes?
Use oil-free makeup remover. Soak a cotton pad and let it sit on the lash band for a few seconds, then gently sweep the adhesive off. Never use sharp tools — they'll cut the band.
What to Look For When Buying New Lashes
At this point, you've cleaned, sorted, and let go. Now you need a pair that's actually worth the space. Here's the filter:
- Durable band that doesn't bend out of shape after a few wears.
- Material that survives occasional cleaning without losing its stiffness.
- A design that's easy to take off and store — minimal maintenance.
