Deep-Set vs Prominent Eyes: Lash Placement Guide

DEEP-SET VS PROMINENT: HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE

Here’s the easiest way to check: stand in front of a mirror and look straight ahead. If your eyelid crease disappears when you close your eyes, or your natural lash line sits behind a noticeable brow bone, you likely have deep-set eyes. If your eyes appear to 'sit forward' in their sockets, and your lashes are visible even when your eyes are closed, you’re probably prominent.

Still unsure? Put a pencil vertically against your cheek, from your nose outwards. If it hits your brow bone before your lashes, you’re deep-set. If it hits your lashes first, you’re prominent.

PLACEMENT RULES FOR DEEP-SET AND PROMINENT EYES

For deep-set eyes: Your lashes need a strong curl — think D or E curl. And they need to go on right at your natural lash line, not above it, or they’ll disappear into your brow bone. Use a 12-14mm length to actually pop out of the shadow. Skip any 'natural' 8mm lash; it will just make your eyes look like they have no lashes.

For prominent eyes: Your lashes are already outward, so you don’t need heavy drama. A C curl works best because it follows your natural curve without sticking straight out. Stick to 10-13mm lengths and avoid a super dense band, which can make you look like a cartoon. The goal is to soften your projection, not exaggerate it.

When in doubt: deep-set = lift into the light. Prominent = blend with the natural arch.
