WHAT ARE LAYERED LASHES, REALLY?
Layered (or stacked) lashes are two separate lash strips worn together, or one strip that contains multiple lengths. The goal is fullness. But on hooded eyes, the lid is half-hidden by a fold of skin, so adding layers can bury what little lid you have.
You don't need to abandon the trend. You need to layer smart.
WHY HOODED EYES LOSE LID SPACE
When the eye is open, the skin under the brow bone sits low, covering part of the moving lid. The space between your lash line and your crease is smaller than average. Any lash band sitting above the lash line takes up that space. Wearing stacked lashes without trimming is like covering a small window with a big curtain.
Measure carefully: you should still see a small strip of lid when you smile. If you don't, your lashes are stealing the light.
HOW TO LAYER WITHOUT COVERING YOUR LIDS
- Use your longest lash at the center, not the outer corner. A center-flare lifts the fold and opens the eye.
- Keep the outer third short and airy. Heavy outer corners pull the eye down and eat the lid.
- Trim each layer's inner corner by 2mm before layering — always test against your eye first.
- Apply one layer on the lash line, the second just behind it, never on top of the lid skin.
And never layer two heavy sets. Use a light textured set as the base and a wispy set on top — the weight difference keeps the lid from feeling pressed.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A LAYERED SET
- Mixed lengths (8–10–12mm) with a visible center flair
- An ultra-thin, flexible band that curves with your eye
- Featherweight material under 0.4g for the whole pair
- No dense, thick wall at the outer corner

What is the best lash length for hooded eyes?
Keep your longest lash at 10–12mm and put it in the center of your eye. This draws the eye upward and keeps the outer corner from drooping.
Do layered lashes damage your natural lashes?
Not when applied correctly. Use a thin band, remove gently with a remover, and don't sleep in them. Damage usually comes from pulling the band off, not from the lash itself.
How do I know if my lids are vanishing under the lashes?
Look straight ahead in a mirror. If the lid skin between your lash line and crease is fully hidden, the lash is too thick or placed too high.
