THE 6 STEP PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION PROCESS

Here is my exact process for applying lashes on a client or a friend. Follow these steps, and you will get a flawless result every time.

STEP 1: PREPARE THE EYE AND THE LASH

First, curl the person's natural lashes and apply a coat of mascara. This gives the false lash something to grip onto. Then, take the false lash out of the tray and gently flex the band back and forth. This softens the band and makes it more flexible, so it will conform to the eye shape better.

STEP 2: MEASURE AND TRIM

Hold the lash up to the person's eye while they are looking straight ahead. The lash should start at the inner corner and end just before the outer edge of the eye. If it is too long, trim from the outer corner. Never trim the inner corner, as this can cause the lash to lift. For deep set or hooded eyes, trim a little extra from the outer corner to prevent the lash from bumping into the brow bone.

STEP 3: APPLY THE ADHESIVE

Apply a thin, even layer of lash glue along the entire band. Do not use too much. A thin layer is stronger and dries faster. Wait 30-45 seconds for the glue to become tacky. The glue is ready when it feels slightly sticky but does not transfer to your finger when touched.

STEP 4: POSITION THE LASH

Ask the person to look down at their nose. This is the most important step. When they look down, their eyelids are closed, giving you a clear surface to work on. Use your dominant hand to hold the lash and your non-dominant hand to hold a pair of tweezers or a lash applicator.

Place the center of the lash band directly on their lash line, as close to the natural lashes as possible. Press down gently. Then, press the inner corner and the outer corner. Do not move the lash around too much once it touches the skin, or the glue will smear.

STEP 5: SECURE THE BAND

Once the lash is in place, use the tweezers to gently squeeze the false lash band and the natural lashes together. This will help them blend and create a stronger hold. Hold for 10-15 seconds to allow the glue to set.

STEP 6: FINAL BLEND

Ask the person to open their eyes and look in the mirror. If there are any gaps, you can carefully fill them in with a liquid eyeliner. If the lash is lifting at the corner, apply a tiny amount of extra glue and press it down. Finish with a light coat of mascara to blend the natural and false lashes together.

HOW TO HANDLE DIFFERENT EYE SHAPES

When applying lashes on others, you will encounter different eye shapes. Here is what you need to know for the most common ones.

ROUND EYES

For round eyes, you want to elongate the eye. Choose a lash that is longer at the outer corner. Apply the lash slightly higher than the lash line at the outer corner to create a winged effect.

HOODED EYES

For hooded eyes, the main concern is the lash hitting the hood. Choose a lash with a flatter curl and moderate length. Apply the lash as close to the natural lash line as possible, and do not push it up into the hood.

MONOLID EYES

For monolids, you want to add volume and length to open up the eye. Choose a lash with a strong curl and a thicker band to hold the shape. Apply the lash a little higher on the lid so it is visible when the eye is open.
