1. SKIP MASCARA — OR USE A TUBING FORMULA. Mascara is the first thing to break down underwater. It smears, flakes, and turns into raccoon eyes within minutes. Wear none under the lashes, or a tubing mascara applied in one thin coat.
2. THE BAND IS EVERYTHING. Look for a flexible band that curves with the water pressure. Stiff bands catch pressure and lift off. Bend the lash before you buy: if it springs back stiff, it will not survive a dive.
3. CHOOSE A HOLD THAT DOES NOT RELY ON GLUE. The safest thing underwater is a lash that clamps onto your natural lashes — think magnetic grip, not liquid adhesive. Chlorine cannot dissolve a physical clamp the way it dissolves glue.
4. REHEARSE AT THE SURFACE. Before you get in the water, close your eyes, press the lashes once more, and check in a mirror. Five extra seconds above water saves a 45-minute disappointment below it.
