MISTAKE #1: THE GLOOPY PICK-UP

You squeeze out too much glue, press the lash straight onto your lid, then wonder why it sticks to your finger instead of your eye. Glue needs air to become tacky. If you apply it to the band and instantly place it, you’re moving too soon. Fix it: wait 30 seconds. Press the lash into place with tweezers, not fingers.

MISTAKE #2: SKIPPING THE LASH LINE

False lashes need to live exactly where your natural lashes start. If they’re placed on the skin above, you get a floating gap. Fix it: use a magnifying mirror, look down, and nestle the lash directly into your own lash roots. Take your time — a lash applied too high is the #1 beginner giveaway.

MISTAKE #3: ONE STYLE FOR ALL EYES

Just because your friend looks gorgeous in a dramatic lash doesn’t mean it works on your hooded or round eyes. The wrong shape can hide your eye or make it look smaller. Fix it: a wispy, center-length lash flatters most eye shapes. Save the ultra-dramatic style for a photo shoot, not your first time.

Use a bead of glue, not a puddle.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN BEGINNER LASHES

Look for a transparent or soft thin band, a lightweight texture, and a length that doesn’t exceed your natural lash by more than a few millimeters. A little flexibility in the band is everything when you’re still getting the hang of it.
